When it comes to smartphones, this year has been quite eventful. We saw the iOS and Android getting their fair share of updates. However the most ravishing update of 2016 has been the iris scanner which consequently makes the Galaxy Note 7 to be the first phablet to have this feature. In addition we expect to see promising updates for the iPhone 8 in the upcoming year by Apple.
Don't Miss: The Hottest CES 2017 Highlights
We are well aware that 2016 would be a relatively slow year for mobile hardware updates and most of the major fabrications were shifting to the next year performance node. However, today the alleged supply chain sources of Apple have cited out much wild rumors. According to the Apple alleged supply chain iPhone 8 will be jumping not only one but in fact two performance nodes ahead of what we have seen in its predecessor.
According to them TSMC is very much ahead of schedule. Also information has been obtained after a research institution supposedly crashed in to the Taiwanese fab facility to see that 7nm chip will be under production in the very first quarter of the coming year. Now if we are to believe this rumor it will actually mean that we are in to see a total rebirth of the Apple line up on its tenth anniversary. However we would advise you not to get carried away with this piece of information.
Although TSMC is claiming to be ahead in the schedule for process nodes, such an advanced jump is hard to believe. To be honest Apple has already given strong hardware updates in the iPhone 7 series this year. The line up includes a custom ISP which has been included for the first time in the company history and we certainly should not forget A10 Fusion.
Right now the reports we have are of the view that the tentatively named Apple 11 will be made on 10nm. Actually it will be a long while before we observe the 7nm to be included in an iPhone or any smartphone for that matter. Rumors have it that iPhone 8 will have many phenomenal updates including a bezel less screen, a hidden finger print sensor and even a replacement for the home button. But we still have to wait for the truth.
