The nominations for the 2017 Golden Globe awards have been announced

And the Golden Globe goes to…

Well before that announcement could be heard at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel in this coming year, we have to know who the nominees are for Hollywood Foreign Press’ prestigious award. Celebrating the best in movie and TV, the Golden Globe Awards are given out each year to the winners decided by the Press after careful deliberation.

This year was no different. While many are claiming that the Golden Globes are much more diverse in their nominations as opposed to the “Oscar So White” scandal that has overshadowed all the awards for the past year, this year’s nominees contained some surprises as well as snubs. 

First off are the nomination in the Best Motion Picture category. The nominees are, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Lion, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight. The nominations for Best Director for a Motion Picture are Damien Chazelle for La La Land, Tom Ford for Nocturnal Animals, Mel Gibson for Hacksaw Ridge, Barry Jenkins for Moonlight and Kenneth Lonergan for Manchester by the Sea.

Best Screenplay nominations for Motion Picture are Damien Chazelle for La La Land, Tom Ford for Nocturnal Animals, Barry Jenkins for Moonlight, Kenneth Lonergan for Manchester by the Sea and Taylor Sheridan for Hell or High Water.

Turning to acting nominations, the nominations for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama category are, Denzel Washington for Fences, Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea, Joel Edgerton for Loving, Andrew Garfield for Hacksaw Ridge and Viggo Mortensen for Captain Fantastic.

Nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama include; Isabelle Huppert for Elle, Natalie Portman for Jackie, Ruth Negga for Loving, Amy Adams for Arrival and Jessica Chastain for Miss Sloane. Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture nominations are, Viola Davis for Fences, Naomie Harris for Moonlight, Nicole Kidman for Lion, Octavia Spencer  for Hidden Figures and Michelle Williams for Manchester by the Sea.

The actors nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture category are,  Mahershala Ali for Moonlight, Jeff Bridges for Hell or High Water, Simon Helberg for Florence Foster Jenkins, Dev Patel for Lion and Aaron Taylor Johnson for Nocturnal Animals. 

The nominations for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are, 20th Century Women, Deadpool, Florence Foster Jenkins, La La Land and Sing Street

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy nominations are Colin Farrell for The Lobster, Ryan Gosling for La La Land, Hugh Grant for Florence Foster Jenkins, Jonah Hill for War Dogs and Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool. The nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are, Annette Bening for 20th Century Women, Lily Collins for Rules Don't Apply, Hailee Steinfeld for The Edge of Seventeen, Emma Stone for La La Land and Meryl Streep for Florence Foster Jenkins.

The Best Animated Motion Picture nominations are, Kubo and the Two Strings, My Life as a Zucchini, Moana, Sing and Zootopia. Best Motion Picture Foreign Language nominations are, Divines, Elle, Neruda, The Salesman and Tony Erdmann.

In the music category, the Best Original Score for Motion Picture are; Moonlight, La La Land, Arrival, Lion and Hidden Figures. The nominees for Best Original Song - Motion Picture are. "Can't Stop the Feeling" Trolls, "City of Stars" La La Land, "Faith" Sing, "Gold" Gold and "How Far I'll Go" Moana. 

With movies done, the next set of nominations focus on TV and the Best in TV.

Best Television Series – Drama nominees are, The Crown, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, This is Us and Westworld. In the nominations for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, there is American Crime, The Dresser, The Night Manager, The Night Of, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

The nominees for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy are Atlanta, Black-Ish, Mozart in the Jungle, Transparent and Veep.

The acting categories are very competitive this year. The nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series for Drama are; Caitriona Balfe for Outlander, Claire Foy for The Crown, Keri Russell for The Americans, Winona Ryder for Stranger Things and Evan Rachel Wood for Westworld.

The nominees for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama are, Rami Malek for Mr. Robot, Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul, Matthew Rhys for The Americans, Liev Schreiber for Ray Donovan and Billy Bob Thornton for Goliath.

The nominees for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy include, Anthony Anderson for Black-ish, Gael Garcia Bernal for Mozart in the Jungle, Donald Glover for Atlanta, Nick Nolte for Graves and Jeffrey Tambor for Transparent.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy nominees are; Rachel Bloom for My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Veep, Sarah Jessica Parker for Divorce, Gina Rodriguez for Jane the Virgin, Tracee Ellis Ross for Black-ish and Issa Rae for Insecure.

The acting categories for Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television had four categories in which the best talent of the year has been nominated.

The nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television are, Felicity Huffman for American Crime, Riley Keough for The Girlfriend Experience, Sarah Paulson for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Charlotte Rampling for London Spy and Kerry Washington for Confirmation.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television nominees are, Riz Ahmed for The Night Of, Bryan Cranston for All the Way, John Turturro for The Night Of, Tom Hiddleston for Night Manager and last but not the least Courtney B. Vance for. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

The nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television are; Olivia Colman for The Night Manager, Lena Headey for Game of Thrones, Chrissy Metz for This is Us, also for This is Us, Mandy Moore and Thandie Newton for Westworld.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television nominations include, Sterling K. Brown for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Hugh Laurie for The Night Manager, John Lightgow for The Crown, Christian Slater for Mr. Robot and John Travolta for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

This is year’s Cecille B. DeMille awards recipient in none other than the talented and versatile, Meryl Streep. The official ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 8th, 2017 with The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon as the host.
