The 3G iPhone release is drawing closer, maybe it is already around the corner. The suspense has been increased quite a bit by the shortage of the current iPhone. The iPhone has been unavailable on the online Apple store for 5 days and O2 in the UK said that they do not have anymore either.
Several carriers have made statements that the 3G iPhone is coming soon. Telefonica's O2 and Apple said that they will be making a joint announcement in the coming weeks.
T-Mobile in Austria said 10 days ago that they would be getting the 3G iPhone soon. Swisscom said they would be bringing the iPhone later this year, but a newspaper claimed it will be the 3G iPhone right away.
AT&T already said in November 2007 that the 3G iPhone will be available this Summer. AT&T already blocked employee vacation time for mid-June just recently.
If the rumors are true that Apple actually is also unveiling an Atom based MID at the WWDC 08, the 3G iPhone could be announced sooner, especially if the changes are really just 3G and added GPS chips. On the other hand everything else points to a June release.
The sold out WWDC 08 will start on June 9th, so by then we will know all the details about the 3G iPhone.
