The Top-selling Products on Black Friday 2007

The first data about Black Friday sales trickles in. Price comparison engine Pricegrabber says that total volume of their merchant referrals generated to sellers on Black Friday has increased 47% over last year with an average order referral of $431.

This would be a good sign as many fear a weak 2007 holiday shopping season.
The top-selling products on Black Friday according to Pricegrabber are the Nintendo Wii, 30GB Brown Zune, TomTom One 3rd Edition GPS, Guitar Hero III, and Canon Powershot SD1000.
This list has to be taken with a grain of salt though as it is based on what shoppers searched for. The Wii is still hard to find and everybody is trying to find the best deal possible as it is almost impossible to find it for the normal price of $249.
The fact that the old Zune player is 2nd place on the list is because Microsoft did something smart for once. They reduced the price to under $100 and this makes the mp3 player a real bargain, making it a very strong alternative to the Apple iPod players.
The problem is that the $99 Zune offers are now hard to find. Amazon lists the brown Zune now for $160 and many other stores charge even more for it.

To put the above top 5 selling Black Friday products in perspective we can take a look at the current best sellers on Amazon.com in the Electronics and Video Games category.
The top 5 best selling products in Electronics are right now the Kindle, 4GB iPod nano, Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD player, Brown Zune 30GB, and 80GB Apple iPod classic.

There are special reasons why some products show up as top selling Electronics on Amazon. There is a HD-DVD player promotion underway where you get 10 movies. Why Kindle is number 1 is bit surprising. See this report about the Kindle hotness. The Brown Zune is also placed as it was available for the low price last week. To see iPods in the top 5 is no surprise.

In the video games category the top 5 best-selling products are Super Mario Galaxy, Rock Band Special Edition, Wii Nunchuk Controller, PlayStation 3 Wireless Sixaxis Controller, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The Wii console is in 7th place.

Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii is a hit game and the price is ok on Amazon. Both reasons are enough to give it the lead. The reason for the SIXAXIS placement is the $19.99 deal Amazon had on Black Friday for it.

It is too early to say which products are really going to be the overall top sellers this Holiday or even just on Black Friday. Only the numbers of the manfacturers or major retailers can shed the light of truth on it.
What can be said is that Microsoft definitely sold a lot of brown 30GB Zunes, Guitar Hero and Rock Band are hot sellers and the Wii is still very hard to find. Happy Holiday Shopping!.
