The rumor yesterday that O2 would offer the new iPhone 3G for free in the UK have proofed to be true. O2 offers with the £45 ($88) and £75 ($147) plans the iPhone 3G for free.
We have checked in with AT&T to confirm that the $199 price Steve Jobs called out for the iPhone 3G is already the subsidized price AT&T will be offering the iPhone 3G. US customers are 'not as lucky' as UK's and need to pony up the $199 for the new iPhone 3G.
Of course you can also look at the bright side. Monthly fees are a bit lower for the iPhone 3G in the States. The Unlimited iPhone 3G data plans for AT&T customers will be available for $30 a month, in addition to voice plans starting at $39.99 a month (results in lowest plan of $69.99).
Funny thing is that with the £75 plan the 16GB iPhone 3G and the 8GB iPhone 3G are free. With the £45 it costs still £59.
The top £75 tariff includes 3,000 minutes, 500 SMS, and unlimited data on 3G and Wifi.
The £45 plan includes 1,200 minutes, 300 SMS and unlimited data on 3G and Wifi.
Existing iPhone customers can upgrade for free now when they are choosing or are on the £45 and £75 plans.
