iPhone 3G Activation Servers go down

Apple falls victim to its own success with failing iPhone 3G activation servers.

Apparently activation is down right now and customers are sent home with their iPhone 3G phones and are supposed to be able to activate at home via iTunes.
Engadget also reports that iPhone 2.0 upgraders have gotten stuck with a bricked iPhone today due to failing activation servers.
I could not find anything on the Apple Support that explains what affected customers have to do to get their iPhone 3G activated. Maybe it is better to wait until the weekend to get an iPhone 3G or upgrade your original iPhone.

More details on Engadget.
