There are two big Palm Pre rumors to report on this evening. First, Engadget got its hands on a supposed internal Sprint planning document indicating a May 16th “Req. Delivery Date” for the “Palm Pre Handset Launch.” A box labeled “Scheduled” was left blank, suggesting that May 16th, a Saturday, could be a Sprint preparation day with an official product release soon thereafter.
Meanwhile, PhoneNews reported last week on a May 17th launch, with a June 29th postponement date if shipments do not meet demand.
I4U has reported on a Sprint employee vacation freeze for May, furthering the speculation.
Also, a few lucky souls are already using the Palm Pre in the wild, if the pictures on bananachunks.com are to be believed. The pictures clearly show two young men at the “Bring Your Own Big Wheel race” snapping pics with the mobile.
While the photos appear authentic, Sprint has been quite stingy with the Palm Pre to bloggers and reviewers, even causing CNET’s Bonnie Cha to lash out. Why would they give it out to a couple of seemingly well-connected teenagers?
