LucasArts announced today that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide in its first week of release making the game the best selling Star Wars title ever. The game launched on September 16th in America, September 17th in Australia and September 19th in Europe.

LucasArts says the sales figures are based on the first five days of sales globally. Over 4.3 million copies of the game shipped worldwide in preparation for the launch. The game is available on Xbox, PS3, and Wii. Exactly why PC gamers were snubbed is a mystery.

“The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games,” said Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts. “We’re blown away by the response to the game.”
