According to the new NPD sales statistics the Nintendo Wii was the top selling video game console in the U.S. in September again. Nintendo sold 687,000 Wii consoles and with 537,000 sold Nintendo DS consoles the number two spot also belongs to Nintendo.
The Wii sales jumped by 234,000 units over the previous month more units sold in September than August. Wii also saw a year-over-year increase of more than 37% over September 2007 and this amidst an overall Video Games sales decline of 7%.
The Xbox 360 outsold the Sony PS3 again with 347,200 units. Sony sold only 232,400 PS3 consoles last month; Sony it is time for a PS3 price-cut!
In the games charts Nintendo placed four games in the top 10 best-selling games of the month. Wii Fit at No. 2 with nearly 518,000 sold, Mario Kart Wii at No. 4 with more than 353,000 sold, Wii Play at No. 7 with nearly 243,000 sold and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for Wii at No. 8 with more than 223,000 sold.
The top-selling video game in September is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which debuted in September, with 610,000 units for the Xbox 360.
