I was researching on what the hottest toys are around the world based on Amazon top seller lists. In Japan I stumbled over an Amazon Shipping Box Doll that is leading the Toy Bestseller List. You read correct the bestselling toy in Japan is a 80mm mascot that looks it is made from the Amazon shipping boxes.
Apparently the Amazon shipping box doll originates from an anime book.
There are several versions of the Amazon.co.jp Box man available. They differ in size and design. One of them reveals an actual anime character inside, which I guess is how this whole thing started. The mini Amazon Shipping Box doll sells for 1,000 yen (~$10) and will actually start shipping in December.
Via Amazon.co.jp (Japanese).
As long as Amazon can even sell empty shipping boxes the company will continue to walk the path of success.
