Sony Ericsson is finally announcing a release date and price for the Xperia X1 Windows smartphone. Sony will sell the Xperia X1 unlocked and directly from their SonyStyle store starting Black Friday (November 28th) for $799.99.
Sony Ericsson highlights the only advantage of buying the Xperia X1 unlocked. You can choose your carrier and data plan. The big downside is that you need to pay an unsubsidized price of $800 for this phone. Is the Xperia X1 worth 4 iPhone 3G phones?
For me this looks like Sony Ericsson could not find a carrier for the X1.The XPERIA X1 is a cool looking arc slider phone with integrated QWERTY keyboard and 3 inch W-VGA (800x480px) touchscreen.
Sony Ericsson tries to catch up with the Apple iPhone interface with their new panel interface. Additionally the XPERIA X1 lets you interact in four different ways: Touch, full QWERTY keyboard, 4-way key and optical joystick.
Other features of the XPERIA X1 include HSDPA, Wifi, 3.2MP camera, aGPS, Bluetooth, FM radio, music player, video player, 400MB internal memory, and microSD card slot.
Sony Ericsson managed to keep the size of their first Windows smartphone fairly small with 110x53x16.7mm. The weight of the XPERIA X1 is 145g.
You can pre-order the Xperia X1 starting tomorrow on the Sony Style site.
