If you have your heart set on a G1 from T-Mobile but don’t want to use T-Mobiles network you can now get an unlock code for the G1 from Global Unlock. The company is offering an unlock code that it claims will allow the phone to operate on any GSM network.

After unlocking, the phone will operate on any of the 670 global GSM networks available by inserting one of the company's SIM cards. Once the Sim card is installed, the phone can make calls, text messages and use data service. Users can also continue using the G1 on T-Mobile.

The unlock code is sent via email so the phone doesn't have to be shipped away for unlocking. The price for the unlock code is $49.99. Step-by-step instructions are provided as well.
