The holiday season is officially upon us and for PC gamers this will be a great holiday season with a glut of new PC games and gaming systems. Intel recently introduced its latest Core i7 processors along with its X58 chipset that promise a massive performance improvement in gaming and other computer uses.

If you have a new gaming rig on your shopping list this year and you have the budget to support the best we have the rig for you. The Alienware ALX X-58 has all of the new tech crammed inside. The machine has several new Core i7 CPU options including the Core i7 940 at 2.93 GHz and the Core i7 Extreme Edition at 3.2GHz.

Gamers can chose from a single ATI HD 3870 X2 with 1GB of RAM or the 2GB HD 4870 X2. Gamers wanting even more power in the graphics department can choose from dual NVIDIA cards up to the GTX 280 and dual ATI HD 4870 X2 cards. The rig is also liquid cooled and offers tons of other features. The big drawback is the price, the machine starts at $3,699 and fully optioned rigs will be well over twice that price.

For Whom:

This is the rig for the hard core gamer that has money to burn. If you want one of the best performing gaming desktops around this is it.

The Good:

  • Tons of Options
  • Uses latest technology
  • Cool looking

The Bad:

  • Seriously expensive
