Blizzard Entertainment has announced that its wildly popular World of Warcraft game has hit 11.5 million subscribers. The milestone has been met shortly after the second expansion pack for the game, called Wrath of the Lich King, launched.

Wrath of the Lich King set a new record for fastest selling PC game in the first 24 hours of availability when it sold 2.8 million copies. According to Blizzard, the game has now sold more than 4 million copies worldwide.

In late October, WoW had a subscriber base of 11 million users, so in only a few months it has grown by 500,000 users. That should mean the announcement of 12 million users worldwide is made soon.
