The new drives weigh 3.3 pounds and measure 8.7 x 5.9 x 1.5-inches and use 3.5-inch 7200rpm desktop hard drives inside the cases with 32MB of cache. A silent cooling fan inside the case keeps the drives cool.
The drives offer performance of up to 50MB/s on USB 2.0, 100MB/s on FireWire 400, up to 800MB/sec on FireWire 800 and up to 3GB/sec on eSATA II. The drives are available now at $179.99 for the 500GB and $249.99 for the 1TB drive.
