The Super Bowl XLIII (43) will take place on February 1st 2009. Despite the economic downturn advertisers are still said to pay $3 million for a 30 second commercial.
For the Super Bowl 2009 commercial to promote the Monsters vs. Alien animated movie the good old 3-D glasses are handed out again like it is the 1950s.
Over 125 million of them are given away for free across the US via 25,000 SoBe Lifewater retail displays in grocery, drug and other retail venues beginning in early January.
Apparently the Super Bowl commercial will last for 3 minutes and will be in 3-D if you got your hands on a pair of the 3D glasses.
DreamWorks promises that the 3D quality will be better than ever before using Intel InTru 3D and ColorCode 3-D, which updates the old red-blue Anaglyph system.
I am pretty sure that Monsters vs. Alien ad will lead the top Super Bowl 2009 charts of TiVo as viewers will want to watch it again, because Aunt Mildred did not see the 3D effect in the clip the first time around.
Additionally NBC will show a 3D episode of its series "Chuck" the following night. So do not throw the 3D glasses away right after the Super Bowl.
Update:
In addition to the Monsters vs. Alien 3D spot, the timeslot will feature a 60-second 3D SoBe Lifewater commercial (see the SoBe Super Bowl 2009 ad) marking the return of the ultra-hip SoBe lizards, who made noise during last year’s Super Bowl broadcast with one of the most talked about spots.
