Nintendo is talking up some very impressive figures from NPD Group that shows just how popular its console and portable DS systems really are. Nintendo says that it moved 10.17 million Wii consoles in 2008, despite the poor economy that virtually crippled other technology firms.
Nintendo says that the Wii represented 55% of all next generation console sales in America and that the DS accounted for 72% of all portable system sales. The top four Wii games in 2008 were Wii Play (the game only marginally more than the Wii Remote that includes an additional remote) Mario Kart, Wii Fit, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. The most impressive fact is that gaming industry revenues were up 19% in 2008 and Nintendo products accounted for an astonishing 99% of those dollars.
