Sony Ericsson Profits Fall 21%

Sony Ericsson has seen its profits drop by 21% in 2008 and Motorola is as hard hit as well. Motorola will cut an additional 4,000 jobs along with the 3,000 job cuts it had announced last year. Most of Motorola's cuts will come from the mobile devices division.

Motorola says that it will now focus completely on phones running Android rather than Windows Mobile. This is likely due to the no cost Android operating system compared to the costly Windows Mobile.

Sony Ericsson announced financial data last week that was worse than many analysts expected with a posted loss of £6.9m in 2008. Sony Ericsson shipped 24.2 million handsets in2008, 21% less than in 2007.
