Super Bowl 43 is today! We have been covering everything about Super Bowl 2009 that has nothing to do with Baseball, sorry it is Football, right?
Especially this year Super Bowl is an event for geeks. Despite the economic crisis there will be plenty of cool and funny Super Bowl ads like every year, but additionally there are 3D commercials and lots of 2009 Sci-fi Movie ads.
To prepare you for Super Bowl XLIII, we have put together a Super Bowl Guide for Geeks featuring our top 10 things you should keep in mind. Read our tips below to make the most out of Super Bowl Sunday.
Super Bowl Guide for Geeks:
1. Big Screen
The most important thing to watch Super Bowl is a big, really big TV. If you do not have at least a 50 inch HDTV at home, go call your friends and relatives to find out who has a decent size TV or even better a Home Cinema projector. Then invite yourself to come over on Super Bowl Sunday.
2. Internet Access in the Living Room
You need Wi-Fi in front of the Big Screen during Super Bowl. Online is where the action is when they actually play Baseball, sorry again, I know it is Football on TV. You can watch Super Bowl commercials again and again or Twitter with your friends about the best ad. You can also vote on SpotBowl or Spike for the best Super Bowl ad.
3. Leave your netbook at home
If you are going to a Super Bowl party bring your big screen notebook and leave your netbook at home. If you are the one that can go online and watch the best Super Bowl ads during the game you will be the hero for the ladies. See our list of sites where you can watch Super Bowl Ads Online during the game.
4. 3D Super Bowl Glasses
If you do not have your 3D Glasses yet for the 3D ads on Super Bowl 2009, I am not sure if you can call yourself a geek. You score high points on any Super Bowl party if you actually bring a dozen 3D glasses you bought on eBay or cleaned from a SoBe stand. See also this report featuring some 3D previews to test your 3D glasse.
5. Learn about the 3D Technology behind the 3D Super Bowl Ads
Impress your friends or ladies with the knowledge of how this 3D magic on the TV works. Read the following reports about this topic to know everything there is to know:
3ality Digital has shot the 3D Dreamworks/SoBe Life Water commercials
DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg explains the 3D Movie business and the difference ot the 3D TV ads
The Company making ColorCode 3D Glasses

6. Drink Beer
Unconfirmed scientific tests showed that the 3D effect increases dramatically under the influence of beer. It is indicated to drink at least a six pack before the 3D ad airs. You have until the end of the second quarter of the game to get your alcohol level up. This is the timeslot for the 3D Monsters vs. Aliens and SoBe 3D ads.
7. Keep hands off the TiVo if Football fans are around
With TiVo you can rewind a funny Super Bowl Ad and watch it again and again. This is fun and because you do not care if you miss a touch down you can miss minutes of the actual game without a problem. If you are at a Super Bowl party with actual sport fans, you might get hit in the face if you make them miss a touch down becuase you had to watch ETrade's Baby Ad 10 times. Also be aware that TiVo records your actions and generates a Super Bowl Ad ranking with your rewinding action.
8. Know at least who is playing
To not look like a total loser, you should know that the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals are playing in the Super Bowl 43.
9. Do not wait for Lingerie Bowl
The Lingerie Bowl has been cancelled and you have to actually watch Bruce Springsteen in the Half Time show.
10. Cope with the fact that there is no Victoria Secret Super Bowl 2009 ad
Victoria Secret had the top ranking Super Bowl commercial in 2008, but they decided that they will not run an ad at Super Bowl 43. So now only Go Daddy is left for some sexy Super Bowl ad extravaganza. Make sure you hit their Internet-Only Super Bowl Ads during the game. See the teasers here.
We will of course continue to report about the hottest Super Bowl 2009 ads and facts in our Super Bowl for Geeks section.
