The much discussed $10 Laptop from India turned out to not be a laptop. The devices cost is now estimated to be between $20 and $30.
The $10 Laptop turned out to be some kind of modem to access servers to download e-learning material.
Why this device was hyped as ultra-low cost laptop for emerging markets is not clear. Of course experts always said it is not possible to build something even close to a laptop for $10. Negroponte's OLPC was not able to make one for $100.
The Hindu has now published a blurry photo of the device that got unveiled as the fabled ultra low cost laptop. It is a white box with some plugs.
