AMD has dropped the price of the GPU in the Radeon HD 4800 series. Pricing hasn’t yet been updated by all ATI partners, but on Newegg.com some of the video cards already reflect the new pricing. The MSI HD Radeon 4850 now sells for $154.99 with a $30 mail-in rebate bringing the total cost to $124.99.
A PowerColor HD Radeon 4870 512MB video card now sells for $169.99 and has a $20 mail-in rebate bringing the total cost to $149. MSI is offering the Radeon HD 4870 1GB for $224 with a $25 mail-in rebate for a total cost of $199. The Radeon 4870 is now a direct competitor to the GTX 250 from NVIDIA.
