Microsoft has announced that it has joined an EU consortium that was formed to help curb and prevent the flow of child pornography online. The coalition includes Visa, PayPal, and Mastercard as well. the coalition is called the European Financial Coalition.

Other members include police agencies and law enforcement bodies and the goal is to not only prevent these images from being seen online but to protect the children and prevent those who post child porn from profiting from the images.

The coalition is managed by the UK Child Exploitation and Online Prevention Centre. Citing the gravity of the issue, Jacques Barrot, VP for European Commission, said in a statement, “It is a reality that the rapid growth of the Internet has opened up a serious criminal market for images of child sex abuse.”
