Along with the new talking iPod shuffle Apple updated iTunes with version 8.1.
iTunes 8.1 is needed to enable synching on the new iPod shuffle 2009.
Other improvements of iTunes 8.1 are geared towards performance. iTunes 8.1 is supposed to be faster and more responsive even with large libraries.
I actually had issues with installing iTunes 8.0. The install failed all the time on my Windows XP system. I did not bother to research why it was failing. iTunes 8.1 installed flawlessly.
In addition Apple also updated Front Row. Front Row 2.1.7 is compatible wiht the new iTunes 8.1.
