You can't really go to a movie without catching a commercial with the little paper bag people advertising Fandango as the place to buy your movie tickets before heading to the theater. Fandango has announced a new app for the iPhone and iPod touch that offers users a way to buy movie tickets from their mobile phone and showtimes at local theaters.

The Fandango application is free and available now on iTunes. The app has the ability to buy tickets for over 16,000 screens around the country and allows fans to watch trailers and view ratings for movies before they buy tickets.

The app also provides movie fans with a list of movies coming soon along with release dates for the coming films. Local theaters can be added to a favorites list for easy access in the future and a secure section for saving credit card data is offered as well to make buying tickets even easier.
