EverQuest was one of the first truly popular MMORPG titles that required users to have an Internet connection to play. In more recent years, EverQuest has been surpassed in popularity by World of Warcraft. Sony Online entertainment is celebrating the tenth birthday of EverQuest.

The game launched in 1999 and has so far spawned 15 expansion packs and franchise titles and introduced millions of players to Norrath. The City of San Diego even dubbed March 16th the official "Sony Online Entertainment Day" because of the companies contributions to the city.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the game Sony is having events in-game and in real life throughout the year with a Fan Faire coming to Las Vegas on June 25th thru 28th 2009. In-game events will include fresh new content over the next few months including solo, group, and raid content.
