The cut caused problems with traffic as well after traffic lights were cut off from computer networks. The traffic lights were working but the lights couldn’t be changed dynamically depending on traffic conditions.
Exactly what was being done when the cables were cut is unknown at this time. BT says that a third party cut the cables in a deep underground tunnel.
