Internet calling companies such as Skype and Google are calling on European policy makers to let consumers access their services through smartphones on any public network. The Voice on the Net (VON) coalition Europe is trying to get policy makers to force mobile phone carriers to allow the use of their products on their cellular or 3G networks.

Currently some mobile carriers are blocking the usage of products such as skype as they fear it is costing them revenue on voice calls. T-Mobile in Germany has already made an announcement that it is to ban the use of Skype on it's iphones.

"Blocking of voice applications on mobile devices, such as the announcement of T-Mobile to block Skype on iPhones in Germany, is highly detrimental for consumer welfare in Europe," VON said in a statement.
