The Momitsu BDP-899 could be the first Blu-ray player to ship without any region coding, allowing it to play back discs purchased anywhere in the world. The new player from Momitsu, which allows you to enter a six-digit code with the remote control to change the player between Blu-rays A, B and C regions is on sale now for $350 from

The new player supports many features such as upscaling of standard definition titles to 1080p, supports BD-Live, HDMI Deep Colour, picture in picture and can also auto convert between PAL and NTSC.
It is not clear if the player ships as a region-free player, or whether it has been modified to play back discs from any region.

Modding a player to remove it's code is fairly common practice amongst DVD retailers, but this normally voids any manufacturer warranty.
