The rumor-ridden HTC Hero has finally made a public appearance. Boy Genius brought out the first leaked pictures of the new smartphone earlier today. Thanks to these pictures, we can now confirm 100% that the Hero will be an Android OS based device.

It looks to me like HTC took several pages out of Google's book when designing their latest entry to the smartphone market. The Hero looks very similar to a GQ, sans unfolding keyboard of course. Both devices share a similar-looking screen/button layout. The Hero appears to have a somewhat larger screen, and it also appears to be thinner than the GQ. That's not surprising considering the Hero lacks a keyboard.

The folks at Boy Genius are speculating that the Hero will feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. The pictures are indistinct, but there is certainly what looks like a hole large enough to accommodate one.

No information as to pricing or availability has been released yet. But, considering how finished the Hero looks, I doubt it'll be very long before we see this bad boy out in stores.
