Asus pulled up the curtain on its sleek looking new Netbook, Asus Eee PC 1008HA in March 2009. Asus terms Eee PC 1008HA as the most stylish and elegant looking of all the netbooks it has ever launched in the Eee PC series so far. Is the 1008HA "Seashell" better than other Eee PCs introduced until now? Is it worth the wait or can you just get the currently #1 selling netbook on Amazon: Asus Eee 1000HE.

The Asus Eee 1008HA is available for pre-order in the UK, but the shipping date given on Amazon UK (Price: £379.50 ~$570) is vague 1-2 month. Japanese notebook exporter Dynamism (Price: $449.99) lists the 1008HA with a shipping date of May 25th. I assume that the new Asus 1008HA will be shipping in the US still this month. Read on to see if the 1008HA is worth holding off your netbook purchase for a couple weeks.
Description:
Asus Eee PC 1008HA comes with an Intel Atom N280 CPU having a speed of 1.66Ghz. As usual, Windows XP Home is the operating system. It has a 1024 MB RAM and the Hard Disk is 160 GB. The 1008HA keyboard is an ergonomically designed one that is scaled down by 92% compared to a conventional keyboard. Such a keyboard makes typing an exceptionally smooth exercise. The 1008HA is also characterized by Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n, 3.75G, and WiMAX wireless connectivity facilities. It is equipped with a multi-touch touchpad and 1.3 Megapixel camera. The thickness of Asus Eee PC 1008HA is about 1-inch and it weighs around 2.4 pounds (1.1kg) making it very easy to handle. The 6 hours of battery life is of acceptable standards and a 10-inch LED-backlit WSVGA glare-type display provides easy navigation through files and documents.
The curved case, which ASUS calls 'luxe pearlescent', is another attractive feature of the 1008HA. Some compare it to the already iconic design of the Apple MacBook Air. Add to these its amazing sheen and you have an exceptionally well-crafted netbook.

Comparison
As of now, Asus Eee 1000HE tops the table of the netbooks that has attracted the highest sales on Amazon.com. We can make a comparison between the Asus Eee PC 1008HA and the Asus Eee 1000HE to understand whether the newly unveiled Asus netbook can step over the present leader.

Both the Asus Eee PC 1008HA and the Asus Eee 1000HE features the efficient Intel Atom N280 CPU that runs at 1.66Ghz. Asus puts 1008HA’s battery life at 6 hours where as Eee 1000HE’s battery life is 9.5 hours. But, battery life cannot be considered a decisive difference as battery life depends on several factors such as the tasks performed and the netbook using habits of a particular individual.

The 1008HA weighing at 2.4 pounds is comparatively lighter than 1000HE which weighs around 3.2 pounds. The 1008HA is available in a variety of colors - white, black, blue, pink, sapphire blue and ruby red whereas 1000HE is available in just two colors - black and blue. The dimensions of 10.91" (L) x 7.64" (W) x 1.08-1.34" (H) of 1008HA makes it thinner than the Eee 1000HE whose dimensions are 10.47 (W) x 7.53 (D) x 1.12-1.50 (H).

Verdict
The above comparison between the Asus Eee PC 1008HA and the Asus Eee 1000HE shows that the 1008HA is all set to overtake the Asus Eee 1000HE as the undisputed king among Asus netbooks if the price is right. Asus Eee PC 1008HA caters in the same way to both fashion forward individuals and those looking for a high performance netbook. Asus has not started to ship the Asus Eee PC 1008HA and therefore, its exact price is unknown. Unless the price is much higher than $387, the price at which the Asus Eee PC 1000HE sells, you should opt for Asus Eee PC 1008HA without hesitation.
