MSI U123 Netbook compared with Asus Eee PC 1000HE

Yesterday we let the new Samsung N110 Netbook go against the topselling Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Today it is the turn of the last month introduced MSI Wind U123 netbook. As the MSI U123 is a 10.1 inch netbook running on the Intel Atom N280 we compare it also to the Asus Eee PC 1000HE.

Description
The MSI U123 is equipped with Intel’s Atom N280 1.66GHz processor, a maximum 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD, and 1.3MP webcam. It also features a 10.2-inch WSVGA display at a resolution of 1,024×600, Intel 945GSE+ICH7M chipset, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR.
Other facilities provided by MSI along with its U123 include Ethernet, three USB 2.0 ports, voice input/output terminal, SDHC/memory stick card slot, D-Sub15 pin, and six or nine cell battery among others. Its dimensions are 7.1 x 10.2 x 1.2 inches it weighs only 2.6 pounds. The MSI U123 is very compact and can be varied in an A4-sized bag with ease. However, it do have relatively large keyboard and screen. MSI has give it a stylish look with sharper lines and vivid colors.

Comparison
Asus Eee 1000HE is currently leading the chart as far as sales achieved by different netbooks on Amazon.com are concerned.
Both the MSI Wind U123 and the Asus Eee 1000HE are powered by the Intel Atom N280 CPU with a speed of 1.66Ghz. The Asus netbook is only available with a six-cell battery whereas the MSI version is available with six or nine cell battery. While the U123 can be chosen from a variety of four colors - metallic black, white, red, and blue, the 1000HE is available in only two colors - black and blue.

The dimensions of the MSI Wind U123 are 7.1 x 10.2 x 1.2 whereas the dimensions of the Asus Eee 1000HE are 10.47 (W) x 7.53 (D) x 1.12-1.50 (H), which means the U123 less broad than the 1000HE.
The U123 is much lighter as well at 2.6 pounds compared to 1000HE, whose weight stands at 3.2 pounds.

Both the MSI U123 and the Asus Eee 1000HE have ergonomically designed keyboards that offer a great typing experience. Both of them also have a 10-inch LED screen, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD and a 1.3MP camera. The Asus Eee has 802.11n and gets more battery life out of the 6-cell than the U123 (question of usage though). The U123 is sold at $349.99 whereas the 1000HE is sold for $390.95.

Verdict
The above comparison shows that the MSI U123 is holdinug up to the Asus Eee 1000HE in several ways. The U123 is lighter and less wide than the 1000HE. The U123 like the 1000HE is sleek and slim and it has the required specifications, which makes it equally favored by the young professional office workers and the experienced ones. The MSI U123 is also cheaper than the Asus Eee 1000HE, but does not offer 802.11n. If you have a 802.11n infrastructure and want some more battery life the 1000HE is the better choice, else you can go with the more portable and cheaper MSI U123.

About the Geek Mind

The “geek mind” is concerned with more than just the latest iPhone rumors, or which company will win the gaming console wars. I4U is concerned with more than just the latest photo shoot or other celebrity gossip.

The “geek mind” is concerned with life, in all its different forms and facets. The geek mind wants to know about societal and financial issues, both abroad and at home. If a Fortune 500 decides to raise their minimum wage, or any high priority news, the geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants to know the top teams in the National Football League, or who’s likely to win the NBA Finals this coming year. The geek mind wants to know who the hottest new models are, or whether the newest blockbuster movie is worth seeing. The geek mind wants to know. The geek mind wants—needs—knowledge.
