Apple starts testing iPhone 3.0 Push Notifications

Apple started testing the new Push Notification service with iPhone developers. The test app is an AP New viewer.
The user interface of the AP app shows that you can select a combination of three types of notifications: Sounds, Alerts, and Badges. See more screens on BGR.
The question remains if Push Notifications will be joined by real background app support for 3rd party iPhone applications as reported last week.
