Netbooks with 8.9 inch have been the standard last year and now we just see 10 inch netbooks taking over. I still like the small and compact 8.9 inch size as the screen has the same resolution as most 10 inch screens available and the performance is also similar. The small Aspire One is still very popular with currently ranking on #3 in the Amazon netbook sales chart. The keyboard is of course rather small, but that is the price for ultra-portability.
Below we take a closer look at the Acer Aspire One A150 and compare it to Asus' 8.9 inch Netbook - the ASUS Eee PC 900HA.
The Acer Aspire One AOA150-1553 netbook comes with an 8.9-inch LED backlit screen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 160GB hard disk drive, 1GB RAM, integrated webcam, and 6-cell battery with up to 5.5-hours of battery life. Its screen supports up a 262K color depth and has a WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600). It uses CrystalBrite display technology and the video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950.
The 1GB of installed RAM can be expanded to a maximum of 1.5 GB of RAM. The netbook has one dedicated SD memory card slot as well as a second multi-in-one card reader that is compatible with five different types of memory cards including Secure Digital, Memory Stick, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick PRO and xD-Picture Card. Other features include 54g Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g); 10/100 Ethernet; Intel GMA 950 graphics; 3 USB, 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack; RJ-45 port for 10/100 Fast Ethernet connection; 56K modem port and built-in email, web browsing, and digital media applications.
This netbook also includes an integrated audio card with Microsoft DirectSound compatibility and USB Mouse.
Both come preinstalled with the Microsoft Windows XP Home operating system, a 160GB hard disk drive and 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor.
The Acer Aspire One A150 netbook is available with a six-cell battery whereas the ASUS Eee PC 900HA is available only with a 4 cell battery. The Acer Aspire One A150 is much lighter than 900HA - their weights are 2 pounds and 2.5 pounds respectively. The dimensions of the ASUS Eee PC 900HA are 8.9 x 6.7 x 1.33 inches and the Acer Aspire One AOA150-1553 is 6.7 x 9.8 x 1.4 inches.
With the above comparison, it is clear that the features of the two netbooks are almost same. Both Acer Aspire One A150 and ASUS Eee PC 900HA are a solid choice if you look for a 8.9 inch netbook. The Acer Aspire One AOA150-1553 is lighter and offers a bigger battery.
