Skype isn't the only voice-over IP (VoIP) provider to offer cheap unlimited calling plans. VoIP rival Vonage recently launched a promotion in which users can lock into a global unlimited call service for $14.99 for 6 months.
Customers must sign up for a one-year contract to receive the discounted 6-month price. The latter half of the service term will jump to $25.99 per month.
Vonage offers calling to over 60 countries, a noteworthy increase over Skype's coverage area. Also, Vonage is convenient in that it allows people to keep their existing telephone number.
Other features offered by Vonage include its own visual voicemail application, and enhanced call forwarding (called "SimulRing").
