One of the biggest rumors swirling around the imminent iPhone 3GS is whether or not it will have video chatting capabilities. Some images swirling around since the weekend showing what appears to be a forward facing iPhone camera in action. Here (Italian iSpazio also had alleged iPhone 3GS photos leaked last week) you can see images of the camera being used to take a self-portrait, and video chatting with another person. One of the images shows off what looks to be a picture-in-picture chatting system.
It's possible these images are hoaxes and in my opinion they really are.
A forward-facing camera for video chatting has been rumored for a while now, so this doesn't come as a huge surprise if it ends up being true, but these images do not show the real deal. Either way, it won't be long now until we know.
I can definitely see the uses of chatting "face-to-face" with my friends and family. Plus, having a forward facing camera carries advantages beyond just video chatting. You can use it to take better self portraits, and I'm sure app designers will come up with all manner of photo-manipulation games that use the new camera.
