MapQuest announced today that MapQuest Mobile 4 is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch on the App Store on iTunes. The application is free and is a leap forward in how people can interact with maps according to MapQuest.
The app has features to simplify the mobile mapping and direction experience and allows direct connections with web-based mapping. That means users who have maps saved to their My Places account can access them via the iPhone App.
The app also features a method for performing one-touch local searchers for businesses to promote their brand. The place carousel has icons called place widgets that allow one touch search for hotels, movie theaters, gas stations, and other places. The app shows locations of these places along their route.
