Here's some surprising news from the good folks at TechCrunch. Apparently Verizon has made the decision to 'fast-track' the implementation of their 4G mobile broadband network to 2010. This fits with the rumor we heard yesterday, that Apple is preparing to launch a tablet PC on the Verizon network.
Of course, the earlier report said that Apple's tablet was going to be 3G. The idea of a 4G Apple tablet PC seems almost too good to be true, so take that with a big grain of salt. Considering the incredible success of the iPhone series and iPod touch, it's not a stretch to imagine that Apple's tablet will be a success of equal scale. The gadget is apparently Steve Job's pet project, and set to launch early 2010 as well.
Verizon's new network will apparently be capable of speeds of up to 60 Mbps, which would put it light-years beyond what 3G can get us. In order to get their network ready for the launch of Apple's tablet, VZW is apparently throwing everything they have into this project. The TechCrunch report put it best, and most ominously,
"Our source says that Verizon is putting just about everything it has in to moving many of these markets up to Q1 2010 — which is the same timeframe for this supposed new Apple device..”
