Apple Wins Legal Row Over Advertising

Apple has won a battle over its advertising claims and is now free to advertise its App Store as the only option for the iPhone. The ads in question were for the iPhone 3GS and showed different apps with the tag line "only on the iPhone."

Some viewers of the ads took offense because similar apps can be accessed on Google's marketplace. Apple defended the ads claiming that the line "here's an app for just about everything" couldn’t be said about the Google Marketplace.

The ASA agreed claiming, "We considered viewers would understand the claim 'only on the iPhone' to refer to the range of apps available and the user experience of the App Store and iPhone, and not that they were the only company to provide applications for mobile phones."
