Microsoft made the new Zune HD official. CNET's Donald Bell got some hands-on time with a pre-production Zune HD and is quite excited about Microsoft's next try of getting some market share from the Apple iPod.
This hands-on review of the Zune HD favors the new Zune web browser, return of EQ, 720p video playback, 3.3-inch capacitive OLED touch screen and the Zune pulling background information on the song that is currently playing. The latter sounds like the Apple Cocktail stuff that is rumored to come.
The new Zune HD has a lot of what is needed to excite gadget fans. How many of the Zune HD players Microsoft will be able to sell will also heavily depends on the price. I really would like to see Microsoft dump the hell out of the iPod prices (how about $99 for a 16GB Zune HD?). Microsoft, Risk something to win something!
The new Zune HD is scheduled for a Fall release. Amazon has the Zune HD already listed.
