Anyone who has ever loved spy movies wants one of LG's new touchscreen watch smartphones. Unfortunately, only those of us with the financial resources of MI6 and a love for impractical gadgets that would put James Bond to shame actually have a chance of affording one. We've known for a while that the GD910 watch phone was going to be expensive, but now we know just what Orange is going to charge.
According to Boy Genius, over $1300. Of course, since the watch phone is only available in Europe right now, the €899 figure is more appropriate. That's with a subsidized 12 or 24 month plan, mind you.
The GD910 is undoubtedly hot, but it's also one of the least practical gadgets for its cost in existence. I have every hope that 'wristset' smartphones are going to be a fixture of the mobile world in the near future, but not while they still cost this much. For the price of a GD910 you could buy an iPhone 3GS, a BlackBerry Tour, and a myTouch 3G, with money left over for a decent netbook to boot. While none of those things are as sexy as a watch phone, they're all a lot more practical.
