Dell Android Smartphone Announcement Imminent?

News of Dell's anticipated Android handset first leaked out way back in June. Since those first grainy photos, we haven't really learned much more. Until today, that is. TechCrunch came out today with information from a reliable source that Dell is about to launch a mobile phone in China. This mobile is expected to be an iPhone-like device, with a touchscreen.

This new smartphone is expected to be announced in a matter of days. As of yet, it is only marked for launch in China, and we have no knowledge of how far behind we can expect a US release to be. The carrier is expected to be either China Mobile, or China Unicom.

The most likely OS for this new smartphone is Google's Android. Dell has experience with the system from their recent work on an Android tablet PC, and every Dellphone rumor so far has included Android as the expected launch OS. It is possible that Dell will develop their own proprietary system. If they do use Android, the PC-manufacturer is likely to create their own 'skin' to differentiate their offering from other Android phones on the market.

Update: Dell Android Phone announced.
