Blu-ray player prices are in free fall compared to last year. Sales analyst NPD even sees a $49 Blu-ray player deal as conceivable on Black Friday according to Blu-ray.com.
I agree that a $49 Blu-ray player is possible. We just reported about the Sylvania NB530SLX Blu-ray player on sale for $124.99 last week.
These budget Blu-ray players do not support BD Live or movie streaming. Networked Blu-ray player are already on sale for around $150. The price pressure on low-end Blu-ray player without networking capabilities is therefore already very high.
A retailer could decide to clear their channels of Profile 1.1 Blu-ray players by dumping them at $49. I do not see much of a market for these "old" Blu-ray players in 2010.
