Zagg has unveiled the first features of the ZAGGbox, which is a home automation device. The device stores, records, and plays media and acts as a media aggregator for video, photos, and music. The device can encode video into two formats at once with one for TV viewing and the other for the iPod.
The ZAGGbox operates by remote control and can stream any stored content to a media device like the iPhone. Zagg is also making an iPhone app that will work with the ZAGGbox allowing control from the iPhone. The device will also function for home automation using Z-Wave and will be compatible with HVAC, door locks, and lighting. Final pricing and specs are unknown, but Zagg expects to sell the device for under $999. Shipping is expected in Q1 2010.
