As reported earlier Walmart announced their next early Black Friday deal today. Starting on Saturday you can get a free $100 Walmart Gift card with the purchase of a new BlackBerry with 2-year contract. This is a pretty stress free offer as I guess Walmart will have plenty of BlackBerry phones available during the whole next week.
$100 Gift cards always sound very nice, but are the offered BlackBerry phones a great deal? Lets have a look a the eight BlackBerry phones offered by Walmart and their prices.
Walmart early Black Friday BlackBerry Deals with free $100 Walmart Gift Card:
(Valid starting November 14th with new 2-year contract)
AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8310 Price: $0
On AT&T you have to pay $99.99 after $100 mail-in rebate for the Curve 8310, but Amazon sells the AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8310 for 1c. Walmart's Curve 8310 wins as you get a $100 Walmart Gift Card.
AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9000 Price: $78.88
The BlackBerry Bold 9000 sells on AT&T for $199.99 after $100 mail-in rebate. Amazon charges $39.99 for the AT&T BlackBerry Bold, which is $38.89 less than Walmart charges for it. Overall with the $100 gift card you only save $61.11 on the Bold. On LetsTalk the AT&T Bold is even free with contract reducing the potential savings to $21.12.
T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve 8520 Price: $28.88
The Curve 8520 sells on T-Mobile for $129.99. On Amazon you only pay 1c and the activation fee of $35 is currently waived. With the $100 gift card deal you save here $71.12. If Walmart charges an activation fee you have only saved $36.12.
T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl 8120 Black Emerald Price: $28.88
T-Mobile sells the T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl 8120 Black Emerald for $79.99. Amazon also has this T-Mobile BlackBerry on sale with contract for 1c and currently no activation fee. With the $100 gift card deal you save here $71.12. If Walmart charges an activation fee you have only saved $36.12.
Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8330 TNM Price: $0
Sprint sells the BlackBerry Curve 8330 for $49.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Amazon also sells it for $49.99 but you do not have to deal with the mail-in rebate. LetsTalk matches Walmart's $0 offer on the Curve 8330, which means this is a great deal as you fully benefit from the $100 Gift card.
Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8330 Red Price: $0
Sprint sells the BlackBerry Curve 8330 for $49.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. LetsTalk matches Walmart's $0 offer on the Curve 8330, which means this is a great deal as you fully benefit from the $100 Gift card.
Verizon BlackBerry Storm Price:$48.88
I assume Walmart means here the first generation Storm 5530 and not the new Storm 2 9550. The Storm 2 is mentioned in the Walmart announcement, but its price has not been published on the Walmart site. The original Storm 9530 can be had for free on LetsTalk. The savings with the $100 Gift Card are only $51.12.
Verizon BlackBerry Tour Price: $148.88
In the initial announcement the Tour is not mentioned, but it is listed on the Walmart site. Not sure what the deal is here as Verizon also sells the Tour 9630 for $149.99. LetsTalk has the Tour 9630 also on sale for $0. Even with the $100 Gift Card you still make a loss of about $50.
The offers analyzed above may vary depending on the service plan you choose and you also should check the activation fees. Overall the Walmart BlackBerry early Black Friday deal is a mixed bag. On some BlackBerrys you really get a great deal as you get the $100 Gift Card and no other retailer is matching these deals just yet. On several others you do not save the complete $100 or even make a loss when you compare the prices.
Last weekend Amazon matched several of Walmart's early Black Friday deals. It could happen again this Saturday. In the end you really always need to compare prices. A free $100 Gift card offer is not a guarantee that you actually got a great Black Friday deal.
