Ah, ZiiLabs, makers of the ill-fated but sexy ZiiEgg. Their first big Android device flopped, because no OEM was willing to buy and brand it. The company isn't going to quit there, though. At the Zii Summit 2009 the company is set to unveil a tablet PC, netbook, portable e-reader, and a "phone with fully featured Android platform".
Android and Me states that this new Android smartphone is likely to pack Zii's latest invention, the ZMS-08 CPU. The ZMS-08 is fair competition for NVIDIA's Tegra processor, as well as the Snapdragon processor.
It features an ARM Cortex A8 CPU clocked at 1 GHz, the ability to decode/encode 1080p H.264 video, 720p H.264 video conferencing, accelerated graphics processing, and support for a wide variety of media CODECs. Sound hot to you?
Carriers today are very bullish on Android devices. They want new, hot, powerful releases in order to generate hype and compete with the iPhone. If the phone ZiiLabs unveils packs a ZMS-08, it's going to be one of the fastest smartphones out on the market. With any luck, a good carrier will realize that before it flounders like the ZiiEgg.
Apple also was the third-largest U.S. electronics retailer in 2011 based on total revenue, research firm NPD Groupsaid. The No. 1 retailer was Walmart, followed by Best Buy. Overall U.S. spending on consumer electronics fell 0.5% in 2011 to $144 billion. ...
