The hottest holiday toy of 2009 has already reached an outrageous price point that is 6x the price Walmart sells a Zhu Zhu Hamster for, that is when they have it in stock.
The eBay listings for a single Zhu Zhu Hamster are at $50 for Buy Now offers. On Amazon, third party shops offer Zhu Zhu in the range of $42.75 to well over $50.
We are still about six weeks away from Christmas and the question is how high the prices for Pipsqueek, Mr. Squiggles, Num Nums and Chunk will go up? Should you still try to find a Zhu Zhu at Walmart or ToysRUs or buy at the current prices?
As our Zhu Zhu tests show, a Zhu Zhu Hamster is actually not worth more than the $10 or so it is supposed to sell for. Paying $50 for this toy is shows that you have a lot of love for your kids. I would still try to find them in stock or look for a bundle offer like the $99.99 Zhu Zhu Pets Giant Hamster City Playset that has been offered on and off by ToysRUs.
There is still a slight chance that the Zhu Zhu supply will improve and you'll find them at normal prices since apparently CEPIA is producing 220,000 Zhu Zhu Pets per day.
