">Back when I was a kid, Toys "R" Us was where you went to pick up the latest action figures, lego sets, and nerf guns. Now the most popular toys have changed. Kids still buy other things, but nothing is quite as popular among the little ones as gaming. That's why Toys "R" Us just sent out a press release promising "aggressive" video game, console, and peripheral deals throughout the holiday season.
First off, from now on video game hardware will be included in the "Big Gift" layaway plan. This way customers can reserve a popular console before the rush hits and make small payments on it instead of a big chunk at once. Putting a console or other piece of hardware on layaway requires a deposit worth 20% of the item's value, and a $10 service charge. Items must be paid in full by December 6th.
An expanded layaway program is a nice way to deal with recession belt tightening. As is their new video game hardware trade-in program. Starting November 20th, customers will be able to trade in used hardware in exchange for Toys "R" Us gift cards. All major Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo consoles (dating back to the N64) will be accepted, as will all relatively modern handsets.
Toys "R" Us is also offering a few special deals this year. Starting November 20th, and going on until the 22nd, the DS Lite will sell for just $64.99 when you also buy a Ready To Play DS Lite Pack totalling $157.95.
Starting November 22nd, and continuing through the 26th, there will be even more deals. Including; Buy one, get one half off on all DS and PSP games. A free $25 iTunes gift card with the purchase of certain video games. A free $15 gift card to Cold Stone Creamery, Subway, or Wendy's with the purchase of an Xbox 360, Wii, or PS3. A $25 discount on The Beatles Rock Band Value Bundle, or $10 off on The Beatles: Rock Band. They'll also be offering 30% off on select video game storage units.
These deals are only from November 22nd to November 26th, so you'd better start gearing up now. Since these sales end on the 26th, you might even be able to avoid most of the Black Friday crowds.
