Windows 7 has only just hit the market and already some are looking to the next OS from the software giant. A slide from a supposed Microsoft roadmap has turned up that shows Windows 8 is set to hit in 2012.

Interestingly according to the slide, Microsoft views Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 as release updates and not major releases. Windows 8 is shown on the slide to be a major release.

It appears that Microsoft is set to start back up on its major releases every four-year schedule. Windows 7 is doing well in the market and we have about three years before we will see the next iteration of Windows hit store shelves.
