Gift Tip 16: Canon EOS 7D DSLR Camera

The Canon EOS 7D launched by Canon, is a camera that offers top-level image quality and functionality without the price of a pro-level camera. The Canon EOS 7D is the digital SLR that many Canon fans have been waiting for. It comes equipped with a long list of previously absent features that the Canon lineup needed to take on cameras like the Nikon D300.

The Canon EOS 7D is a high-end DSLR camera with features like 18.0 Megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 4 Image Processors. It is equipped with a cross-type 19-point AF system with improved AI Servo AF, ISO 100-6400 (expandable to 12,800) and 8.0 fps continuous shooting. The Canon EOS 7D also comes with the new iFCL which intelligently measures focus, color and luminance, across 63 zones to provide accurate exposure even in difficult lighting.

The video portion is one of the attractive features of Canon EOS 7D. You can shoot videos at 1920 x 1080 resolutions and set it at 24p, 25p or 30p frame rates. You can also shoot in 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios, using either the integrated mono mic or an external stereo mic to pick up audio. The Canon EOS 7D has a RAW/JPEG toggle button, which enables the photographer to add large JPEG or raw file formats to their shooting modes with ease. It comes with a 3.0-inch LCD screen with 920,000 dot resolution. The shutter is rated at 150,000 cycles. The Canon EOS 7D's buffer can handle 94 JPEGs or 15 RAW images at top speeds.

A significant upgrade to the Canon EOS 7D is its 100 percent viewfinder coverage that is currently only available on a few competing digital SLR cameras, including the Pentax K7 and the Sony A900. The dual DIGIC 4 chips make the Canon EOS 7D, the fastest sub-frame camera with the capability of capturing up to 8 frames per second and a burst depth up to 94 JPEGs.

The Canon EOS 7D has many attractive features that include superior build quality, excellent image quality, quick start-up time, solid operation and a good battery life. The bright LCD display, simple controls/menu and nice features/settings are also the points of this device that stand out. However one of its major drawbacks is its deficiency in features when editing RAW files.
