The all-new Cannon S90 IS has come to the market with brand new and exciting
features. In August 2005, Canon launched the last in the line of its S-Series
compact cameras. After four long years, the company has rebooted
the range with the sleek and stylish looking S90.
The Canon S90 is a compact digital camera with built-in flash, 3.8x Optical/4x
Digital/15x Combined Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer System powered by the
same 10-megapixel image sensor as the G11. As with the G11, you will get the
same fantastic image quality, solid low-light performance and ability to shoot
in RAW. What makes the Canon S90 stand out is the fast f/2.0 lens that allows
improved low-light photography and overall faster performance. While lacking a
viewfinder, the 3-inch TFT LCD monitor with 461,000 pixels and 100% coverage
more than makes up the difference.
The Canon S90’s Dual Anti-Noise System and lens covering the classic 28-105mm
range make it a precious asset for photographers. Optical Image Stabilization,
smarter scene detection, low light mode and the DIGIC 4 image processor are the
key features of this device. However, the standout feature is the programmable
control ring around the lens that allows detailed control over aperture or focus
just like a full-sized SLR camera. The bright lens allows exceptional
versatility, capturing low-light images and fast-moving subjects at higher
shutter speeds. The 28mm wide angle lets you put more in the frame, while
Canon's optical IS reduces blur caused by camera shake.
This camera is not without its faults though, it is lacking a viewfinder and the battery life could be longer. Small
camera buttons and low light scene mode do not allow the user to select a focus
mode. The control dial is too loose and for that reason it is automatically
assigned a function based on the function assigned to the Control Ring.
Great Gift For
The Canon S90 is the idea gift for someone who needs a tiny but great camera for their travel purposes. Some say the S90 is actually better than the Canon G11. They are both
priced almost the same, but the
Canon G11 has a bit more professional touch.
Price and Where to Buy
The Canon S90 is on sale on
Amazon.com for $429.88.
